Information Overload Causing Unproductiveness

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Obviously, if you are trying to make money online then you need to keep up on the latest tips, tricks, and trends, but when does it all become just too much? I have been going through a major case of information overload which has really hampered my productivity. There are so many ways to make money online and get your name out on the web that a person could easily spend a year, 365 days at 24/7, reading about them. The problem is, if all of my precious time is spent reading and then I’m not doing; if I’m not doing then I get nowhere. Getting nowhere is frustrating and then a self destructive cycle worsens spirals downwards and goes out of control. Information overload is standing in the way of my success and the buck is stopping here.

This weekend, my RSS inbox will be cleaned up and I’ll need to consider which feeds are valuable and worth my time. Relaxation is important also, so the two feeds that I subscribe to for entertainment will not be going away; everything else is fair game. Once that is done I’m sure reading my feeds will definitely be a productive time for me instead of a daunting task.

Cleaning and organizing my desk is next on the list. Walking up to this mess and thinking I’m going to get anything done is just crazy. All I see if a stack of reminders of unfinished business and things to get done. Not a great way be productive. Information OverloadSomeone I know once said, “A clean desk is a sign of a crazy mind”, which I believe is true and knowing myself, the desk will never be spotless. On the other hand, there is definitely a problem with going to far to the other extreme, which is what this is.

Feel free to share your ideas.

Another new blog and business idea

Monday, June 30th, 2008

As if I don’t already have enough to do, I started a new blog this weekend and came up with an EXCELLENT business idea yesterday.

The blog I started was originally just going to be a directory for my Squidoo Lenses, but I didn’t have the patience to learn how to use Word Press as a Content Management System. It’s on my list of things to do, just not near the top. For now it’s a blog & even though I’m not an expert, I think blogging about my Squidoo experiences will definitely help me get there. Since I’ve made it into a blog, I’ll also be featuring many other Squidoo lenses as well; it won’t be all about me! (How boring)

I will touch on my other business idea as soon as everything is up and running. I love this particular idea because it’s fresh, original, Q loves it, and Q has already offered to help me out on the sales portion. Finally, a business that he can understand and participate in. Stay tuned for more information.

Back to Basics

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

As of right now, I’m in the process of looking for a new theme for our blog. The old one was just way too busy and the more I looked at it the uglier it became. Until I find a new theme, I’m going back to the standard out of the box wordpress theme in order to make things easier to read. I’ll be sticking to free themes for the time being as my budget is $0.

Anything for Bookies to Make a Buck

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

It’s bad enough the casino’s have infiltrated the lives of people around the world to the point where we don’t just have to deal with them on vacation, but in our everyday lives, but what the heck is the deal with making odds for TV talent shows?

I was just doing a little research for my Andrew Johnston Squidoo Lens when I came across this article from My Park Magazine. They are making odds on who will win Britain’s Got Talent, if Amanda Holden will cry when Andrew sings during the final, and if he will have a number one single this year. Does society need to put odds on everything? When will it stop?

Do I think the government needs to step in on something like this, NO? I don’t believe in government regulation. I think the bookies should take a look inside and really take a look at what they are putting odds on. Will it happen? I know the answer is no. There is a reason that these people are bookies and not book store owners. They don’t care who gets hurt when they are trying to make a living for themselves.

I hope Andrew Johnston doesn’t realize that there are odds out there on him; imagine the kids at school then if he doesn’t win. I can hear it already “My mom can’t afford to buy me new shoes anymore because she put our life savings on you to make Amanda Holden cry and you didn’t” and then a big fat pow in the face.

If the people that bet on this type of thing would just stop, the bookies would possibly stop wasting their time with odds on this type of thing, until then, I guess I have my blog to rant on.

Am I off base here?

Take Time to Slow Down - Or Else

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

What a crappy week.

This whole month I have had just way too much going on. It’s year end at my day job, I’ve been trying to post every other day here (I know, it didn’t happen this week), as the pet pics come in I’ve been updating them, I’ve had to relist a bunch of stuff on eBay, ship orders out, and… you get the picture. The whole world came crashing down in my head this week when I got the sinus infection from hell. These things have a way of sneaking up on me; one hour I’m fine and the next minute my head is about to explode and if I sit upright I may hurl.

Sinus infections are my body’s way of telling me to slow down and this time I tried not to listen because I had so much to get done at work. At 1:00 on Wednesday I just had to call it quits and go home as I was getting to the hurling point of the infection. On Thursday I realized that I had no choice but to just stay home and lay on the couch all day, otherwise, this headache was just going to rear its ugly head again. This is a very rare occurrence, I’ve called in sick like 4 times in the last 5 years. I wish my body would come up with a more subtle way of telling me to take a break, but I probably wouldn’t listen anyways.

This doesn’t happen to me very often, so this huge gap in posting should only happen about once every 1.5 to 2 years. Of course, some visitors may have enjoyed the break :)

Anyways, I’m looking forward to April 1st, when work will be back to some semblance of normalcy.

Creating My New Blog - One Million Pet Pics

One Million Pet Pics

I’ve had an idea of making a website of 1,000,000 unique pets for about 2 years now. I was originally inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage and thought of charging people $5 to get their pet shown in my giant online pet collage; I registered the domain name and off I ran. I soon realized that my whole idea wouldn’t work; I don’t have the programming experience and who would really go for it anyways? I know you don’t know who would go for it, but it was the programming and lack of money which really kept me from proceeding.

For two years, I paid for hosting and the domain name with nothing on the site. I was busy working on other things and investing in the video game business that I run. The games were what was bringing me money so that’s where I concentrated my time; of course, this is what any good business person would probably do.

Using Entrecard.com and seeing all of the great blogs that I’ve been dropping on has given me inspiration to revisit this project and I pretty much spent this whole weekend setting this “pet” project up. Check out One Million Pet Pics for yourself and see how you can benefit from my new blog.

Within the next couple of posts I will also be writing about some of the tools that I used to get everything up and running. Obviously, I have a little bit of tweaking to do yet, but I feel it’s definitely ready for public viewing.
