Since I have joined Entrecard I have been visiting some very well done blogs and read some great tips which have given me inspiration to make changes here. I have added the email RSS feed over on the side along with a Feedburner link. The AddThis widget is still there, but I don’t know if readers were getting confused, or if my content just really stinks; the lowdown is I wasn’t getting subscribers and something had to change. We have removed most of the Adsense links not because they weren’t getting clicks, but the ads which were served had been gambling links; not cool. I think moving one column over to the left has really helped clean things up and I will be reducing the size of my header image or going with a whole new WP layout shortly. I just have to decide if I want to spend a ton of time trying to figure out how to change what I have already.
I’ve added a Topspots widget from scratchback.com over on the left hand side; we accept tips through here for only $1 a piece. We’re also giving Empty Space Ads a shot to see how well they do. I’ll be writing a full review on their widget shortly, but I want to do some more playing around with this first.
I’ve also added a Favorites page with links to the sites I regularly use where I make money online. I’ll be changing this page shortly and posting about it, so stay tuned.
My whole goal with these changes is to start converting the Entrecard traffic I’ve been receiving to readers. I’m still leaning towards splitting this blog into two, I’m just fearful of spreading myself too thin as I have two other projects in the works yet.

I think the changes you mentioned are a good idea, they all help. The side areas are still a bit busy.

i know exactly how you feel.. about changing the layout and all.. i just changed mine last night (bcoz of entrecard too.. (been hopping and dropping)).. and i really liked it.. you’ll like the change..

I know what you mean about the clutter, I’m going to play around with that today. I don’t think the emptyspaceads are helping the situation because I have it set to stick to the nearest margin. Otherwise I noticed that I was chasing the bubble around like a loon; not a good way to get clicks.

I like the new clean layout. I don’t think I’ll have time to play with things this weekend, but I’m definitely going to try and shrink the header. That should help alot.

I’m David, founder of emptyspaceads and I really appreciate you giving us a shot. We’d be happy to help you customize the ads so you won’t have to chase them around like a loon :). We’ve also just finished a new release that should make the ads appear a lot less in the “Automatic” detection method. I can feel your pain about the gambling. I lived in Las Vegas for over 30 years and could tell you stories that would bring tears to your eyes. Now I am a new blogger trying to share a lifetime of experience to help people get on the right track again. Gambling is a choice and only a symptom of other stuff going on.
