i am sorry for my bad manners, my name is min and i am a compulsive gambler. i am 27 and a college student and have gambled for the past 2 years and it was getting worse every day. i have gambled online, casinos, with friends. only t.v. shows i watched was poker. finally i entered a phase of acceptance that i do not have control of gambling and that it has control of me and currently attending meetings so that i can get the courge to stop before i lose everything, including my wife. although i have a short history of gambling experience i was betting like the pros and engaging in every gambling activity there was, i had to quit. currently i have an oppertunity to truelly get a good understanding of my self and of my illness in that i am a Occupational therapy student at my local university. Occupational therapy helps people to return to their nomal and maxumim functioning level by helping the person as a whole not just treating the specific illness. one of my assignments this semister is to find a case of a person who is suffering with a mental illness and design a treatment plan for that individual. at first i really wanted to do it on my self, but that would be impossible and biased so i am really interested in doing my treatment plan on your husband, this is just a school project and i will not ask you for any information that is confidential to you and your husband, but i may need information such as his hobbies, interests, some past histroy to develop the most effective treatment appraoch and your relationship and how much it has impacted his life and yours. i would really like to base my case study on your relationship because not only for school but i think it will help mine as well since both of our relationship is in a similar situation. I have not found any info where OTs were treating people with gambling addiction and this will be a very difficult and challenging for me but with your help maybe we can learn something new together. thank you for your time.

Hi i hope you dont mind if i ask some questions but how long did your husband gamble? because i am currently trying to recover my self i think its making me want to know more about "Q" and why he has become a victim of gambling.. was his family also involved in gambling? i know i started with couple trips as an recreational thing playing bingo with my wife at the local casinos and became a uncontrolable frequent thing. I am really interested in knowing who he was like before it became a problem, the person you fell in love with, and how much he has changed that its making it so difficult for you. i am sorry if i am asking too many questions its just i feel that i might learn much from what your going through and the damages that i did not know even was occuring in my relationship.

Min,

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Q has tried to get help and some things have helped him stop doing the extremely stupid things like taking out a loan for gambling money (knock on wood), but he still slips with money he's earned from work or recycling. He also has a workbook that he works his way through on his own time, however his timing when he picks up the workbook is always after the fact that he's been to the casino.

The problem with being a compulsive gambler is the fact that you can't stop. At some point you're not happy with being up $20 with the $20 you put in, but hey when you think about it, you've doubled your money. It goes the other way too, it's difficult to walk away from a $10 loss because you've now lost. It's a very ugly road to start down and I don't wish it on anyone.

Hi, I too am a compulsive gambler like your husband, i have been gambling for some time now but did not really admit it to my self until recently, reading your blog seems to be a reflection of my own life story. my wife tells me the exact same things about how you feel deaing with the lies and complications of gambling. i used to feel that i had everything under control and i even though i had special skills that gave me an advantages to play poker. i became really good at it and it has been a hobby of mine for the past 2 years. now it has become an addiction that was making me scared and taking up all of my time.

I would just like to say that i think its amazing how you are dealing with this problem, i know my wife was going through alot with so much stress and worries. you seem very strong and very intellegent and your husband is really luck to have you in his life.

Has your husband tried to get any help?
