Entrepreneur was read every month when it came in, cover to cover for the first year I subscribed to it. For the past year all of these magazines have all been piling up next to my desk, unread and unopened. Why do I still subscribe? To stimulate my brain for ideas, to relax, and motivate myself. Obviously, if these magazines have been piling up next to my desk I they really haven’t been serving their purpose.

So Sunday, instead of sitting in front of the computer all day I decided to read through the Inc 500 issue that I received in the mail not too long ago. I received this subscription free from e-rewards with points that I had earned taking surveys. I don’t remember how many rewards this subscription was, but it only cost me a little time. Seeing all of these fairly young companies making it always great motivation for me; if these people can do it, then I can do it, everyone has to start somewhere.

An extremely motivating article that I read was the story of Stoneybrook Farms. An organic yogurt producer who went organic before it was en-vogue. This story was not written from the owner’s point of view, but from the wife’s POV. As I was reading the story, I was wondering if Q often feels the same way this woman did when thinking about my many online business ventures. I asked him to read it when he had a second, but I don’t think he will. I can’t find a link to the article, but if you get a hold of the Inc 500 issue, it’s worth the 20 minute read. Especially if you are a spouse of an entrepreneur.

Will a company I start every make it to the Inc 500 list? I hope so. If not, having 1/2 of the success these companies and entrepreneurs have would be quite the accomplishment and it would get me on the Inc 5000 list

Do you read anything offline to relax? Is it business related or personal?

My biggest problem is coming up with ideas on what to write about in order to set myself apart from the rest of the same old boring blogs. To keep things on track, I’ve decided that I almost need to set a theme for everyday in order for ideas to start flowing for me. Sundays will be contest posts and Mondays will be motivation ideas to keep myself on track.

Monday is a great day for me to post about motivation, it’s the day that I hate to see come out of all of them in the week. Monday is also countdown day to Friday, not a good way to spend my life and I have found over the last six months to a year that the biggest roadblock towards working for myself is myself. Please don’t come here looking for “you-rah-rah” posts because I’m not that type of person. These are motivation and time management ideas that work for myself and hopefully you can find something here that may work for you. Who knows, it could give you a reason to stop and just say “that girl’s a nut job”.

A couple of weeks ago Unconventional Marketing spent a week giving back to the readers of his blog because that is the type of person he is. Josh is one of the most kind and thoughtful bloggers I have run into around the bloggosphere so far. I’m a little behind with this, but on July 30th, Josh said some very kind words about Down On Our Luck in one of his giving back posts. His kind words have given me more energy to keep this blog running and get back to updating regularly. I will also be taking his Q&A idea and incorporating it into my blog on Wednesdays which is the day I’ll be answering questions. Feel free to leave a question as a comment on any of my posts and I will make sure to answer it on Gambling Addiction Q&A Wednesdays. If you have a question about something else, feel free to comment it as well and I will make sure to answer it.

I don’t want to make this look like a sidenote, but Unconventional Marketing is worth checking out no matter what type of business you’re in. Josh is a very insiteful young man (he’s only 24) who shares his thoughts about online marketing as well as offline marketing. I have found his feed one that’s definitely enjoyable to find in my inbox.

Food for fodder: do you work a “day job” while trying to run your online business? What do you do to stay motivated during the day and keep your energy up at night?
